Our 13 Favorite Office Culture Reads of 2017

Part 2 of our "Best of 2017" series (check out Part 1 here).

Before we get into the list, the answer is yes, we did include some of our own blog posts here (sorry?). But only because we really, truly believe their message. Mainly, though, there are many others from friends of Buoy whose expertise on office culture, perks, and experiences holds far more weight than our own!

Behold, our 13 favorite reads of 2017 (presented in chronological order):

7 Deadly Sins of Employee Communication – “Of the factors that contribute to manager-led engagement, communication tops the list. If you can’t communicate effectively with your employees, you can say goodbye to engagement, productivity, and retention.” Chicago Tribune

In Support of Work-Life Balance – “‘Work-life integration,’ as it is called, is nothing more than a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and we’d all be best served if we gave it, and its ideologies, the boot.” Buoy Blog

The Key to Creating the Perfect Office Wellness Program? Ask Your Employees – “Employee health and happiness are major drivers of productivity, so companies who ignore these factors do so at their peril.” Built In Chicago

Create a Corporate Culture That Employees Will Value With These 3 Principles – “Culture is what determines if and how our thoughts, ideas, and plans are enacted. Regardless of what you want to happen, culture determines what will happen.” Inc.

4 Ways to Ignite Your Workforce – “The tell-tale sign of organizational health is the quality of employee engagement. Success in this area takes a group effort.” CMO to VC

In an Era of Job Hopping, These Employees Are Staying Put – “How do you foster a company culture that encourages employees to stick around? We spoke with employees at eight Chicago tech companies to find out.” Built In Chicago

In the War for Talent, Some Companies Will Even Help Employees Pay Their Student Loans – “The millennials streaming into the workforce today, at companies both big and small, are expecting and getting benefits that baby boomers wouldn’t even have thought of – or dared ask for.” CNBC

7 Steps to Creating a Company Culture That Isn’t Just a Buzzword – “An organization’s culture is found in the behaviors of its employees and the values that drive those behaviors.” Inc.

Work and the Loneliness Epidemic – “Looking today at so many other places around the world ravaged by disasters of all kinds, I think about how often tragedy brings us together – and how fleeting that connection often is.” Harvard Business Review

3 Reasons to Maximize Employee Happiness – “What companies must realize is that – given the values, attitudes, and work ethics of Millennials – they must be able to provide more to their employees.” Buoy Blog

How Employee Happiness Impacts Brand Value – and How You Can Influence It – “Highly-publicized ‘toxic cultures’ have turned into social media spectacles that demonstrate the human costs of negative corporate environments.” HR Technologist

The Key Differences Between Culture, Purpose, and Employee Engagement – “Chocolate on its own can be referred to as culture. Peanut butter can be thought of as purpose. When we put both the chocolate and the peanut butter together, we get engagement. The Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup is the resulting effect of successfully combining chocolate and peanut butter.” Forbes

4 Unorthodox Office Perks and Their Residual Benefits – “What companies need to do these days, perhaps more than anything, is engage their employees.” Buoy Blog

And that’s a wrap for 2017. We can’t wait to read more great articles, lists, and blog posts in the New Year! Enjoy the holidays, everyone!
